This is an OOAK (one of a kind) Custom Made teddy created from vintage pelts sent to me by my customer (who found me on Etsy).
They were very interesting pelts since they were the actual pelt rather than a stole or a collar. They were not mink but after some research I came to the conclusion that they were American marten pelt because of their fur length but mainly because of their natural orange color.
While I normally only accept ranch mink coats, stoles, or collars ... I do love a challenge. And this was a challenge! The fur was much longer and finer than mink. The skin itself was very thin and more fragile than a mink pelt. The 2 small pelts did not provide enough to make a teddy without shearing down the hairs (to keep the bear in visual proportion ... or it would just look like a fur ball). I did not want to cut down the hairs because then the wonderful orange color would have been lost. My best solution was to add some of my own white mink and create an orange and white panda. I love the result ... an Orange Sherbet Panda !!!
